Today’s Stoic
A cone is not harmed by being broken, nor is a man harmed by what happens to him from outside.
Epictetus · Discourses · paraphrase
What it means today

A thing is only what it is. A cone is still a cone when broken; a person is still whole in will when the world has broken things around him. The breakage is outside, not in the essence.

Try this todayWhen something outside you is "broken," ask: which part of me is still whole and can still choose?
Today’s questionWhat am I treating as harm to me, that is really only to my circumstances?
